Exploring Cold Wax Medium

*Please note that we are hoping to run this workshop from our new premises in the centre of Bingley (109-111 Main Street, Bingley, BD16 2HT) and we will contact you prior to the workshop to confirm the location. Exploring Cold Wax Medium Join talented Yorkshire artist Paula Dunn for an informal 2-day workshop on using oil paints and cold wax medium. Cold wax is used at room temperature, without heat, and when combined with oil paints it can be used to produce depth and atmosphere to both abstract and landscape work. This 2-day course will introduce you to techniques for creating work over a period of time. This will involve building up paintings in layers, using cold wax, oil colours, pigment sticks and pure pigments. We will use a wide variety of tools, collage, mixed media and look at new ways to create textures. We will use a range of different surfaces to give you the opportunity to experiment and see what each surface offers and how the cold wax medium behaves differently. The workshop will include information about techniques, as well as demonstrations and plenty of time for practice. A handbook containing reference material and course notes will also be provided. Knowledge Areas: Introduction to using cold wax medium with oils Introduction to the tools Introduction to different surfaces / supports Understanding drying times Working wet-on-wet Building layers of colour Using transparent and opaque colours Creating textures and lines using a variety of tools and techniques Solvent reduction techniques Incorporating pigments and other loose powders into your work Introduction to pigment sticks and oil bars Using glazes to create veils of colour Masking and stencilling techniques Transfer techniques Blending techniques Skill Level: This 2-day workshop is for participants who have previously worked with cold wax and for experienced artists who are new to the medium.
