The war behind the wire: prisoner of war document display

Display Discover more about this volunteer project to catalogue The National Archives’ surviving collection of Second World War German Record cards of British and Commonwealth Prisoners of War and some Civilian Internees, at a drop-in document display.  The WO 416 series includes cards of those that escaped, died, or who were exchanged with German prisoners of wars. They also provide brief glimpses into highly detailed accounts of the medical treatment received by prisoners of war and include photographs and X-rays.  This document display will help illustrate the challenges of working with an incomplete collection of records created outside the UK. It reveals the intimate personal human stories uncovered along the way, many relating to notable cases and with links to other records in our collection. This is a free drop-in event. No booking required. We run an exciting range of events and exhibitions on a wide variety of topics. For more details, visit . Please note: Charges are now applicable in our visitor car park.
