Scotland's Mental Health First Aid: 1st & 8th December 2020

Course Overview  The 2-day Scotland’s Mental Health First Aid course will improve your knowledge and understanding of mental health and teaches skills for providing initial help to people experiencing thoughts of ******* or mental health problems such as self-harming, anxiety, depression and psychosis. Using volunteer film clips, activities and group discussion you will build your confidence and develop the skills to give immediate help to a person in distress by applying the ALGEE framework, until suitable professional help can be found. Participants receive the Scotland’s Mental Health First Aid attendance certificate on completion.  Learning Outcomes  By the end of the course you will have a greater understanding of: The recovery message The impact of alcohol and drugs on mental health Self-harming ******* intervention Anxiety Depression Psychosis Applying the ALGEE framework as a mental health first-aider What to do and say in a crisis Signposting to professional help Listening Skills Understanding of and how to offer first aid to someone experiencing depression, anxiety or a psychotic episode Know what to say and do in a crisis  Participants will receive Scotland’s Mental Health First Aid Manual and supporting handouts.  Other Information This course takes place over two days, each day is 9.00am to 4.00pm.
