Basic Woodwork and DIY Course, 9am-5pm

Maximum 4 people Designed for the complete beginner, learn basic wood work; how to use different tools and gain the skills needed for necessary household DIY including: Hanging shelves, repairing cupboard doors, flat pack furniture, using battery tools.  All safety equipment is provided but wear clothes suitable for being in a workshop.  COURSE CONTENT  Drawing plans and working from them Battery powered drills Different types of squares and their uses Marking techniques and measuring on metal and wood Drilling Drill bits (twist drills, brad point, masonry, forstner bits, hinge bits, speed bits) Profile gauges Plum lines Hand planes Chisels Fasteners (nails, screws,wall fixings, concrete anchors, expanding and cam fixings) Handsaws, Hacksaws, Coping saws Files and rasps Mitre blocks and Bench hooks Timber selection for your projects How to sharpen tools Making basic joints (lap joints, half joints, mortise and tenon, pocket screws, box and dovetail joints) Hinge types Mortising for hinges and locks and how to install Basic jigs to make your life easy Spirit and Laser levels Sanding and preparing for finish    General information for your visit. Please wear clothes suitable for dusty work, sensible shoes and your own lunch. There is a local shop nearby if you wish to buy lunch or you can bring a packed lunch with you. Tea and coffee is provided throughout the day.  If you have some of your own tools and would like to learn how to use them properly, then you are welcome to bring them and use them on the course. We have a fully equipped workshop so there is no need to bring anything, but some students like to bring their own.
