Women in Sustainability Network: Aberdeen Hub, Carmelite Hotel, Monday, 03. June 2019

How To Have a Powerful Voice

Women in Sustainability (WINS) exists to help women flourish in careers that are building a sustainable world. This event will focus on both progressing and being heard in organisational environments which are not necessarily women friendly. This will be a friendly, informal and highly interactive session in which our speakers will facilitate conversations about the challenges and opportunities we ****, and share their wealth of experience.
The speakers are highly influential and impactful women, who'll be sharing their insights and tips on what you should be thinking about, and practising, in order to have a powerful voice.
Adding to the mix the usual 'Women in Sustainability' approach of getting you connecting and working together, this will be a highly engaging session that you simply can't afford to miss!

In addition, this event will be an opportunity to meet Lola Okunrinboye, the new Aberdeen Hub Lead; and for Lola to get to know you. Lola is really keen to hear what you are looking for from the Hub and how we can develop it together over the coming months.

The Women in Sustainability Network is already established with Network Hubs in London, Oxford, Bristol, Manchester, Newcastle and Glasgow. WINS Aberdeen will be our Second Hub in Scotland and we are very excited to launch in a city with an appetite for a learning community that supports female change makers to flourish in their careers and businesses.
As ever there will be the space and opportunity to network and share experiences with colleagues. We look forward to seeing you there!
Panelists so far confirmed are:
Claire Forbes, Managing Director, Response Consultants UK Limited

Claire first became involved in emergency response in 1999 while studying at university, by taking part-time work as a role-player in exercises organised by Response Consultants. Claire graduated with a MA in Entrepreneurship from Aberdeen University in 2004 and joined Response Consultants as a full-time Consultant in the same year. She was made a director of the company in 2008 and in 2014 became Managing Director. Claire also graduated Robert Gordon University in 2016 with a Bachelor of Laws LLB. Claire is involved in all aspects of Response Consultants business, including developing offshore and onshore emergency procedures, presenting crisis management training, emergency, media and relatives response training courses and exercises, both in the UK and overseas. Claire is also part of the Response Consultants ‘on-call’ team and has attended many actual incidents working in emergency response rooms, dealing with calls from concerned relatives and meeting evacuees at the heliport and reception centres. Claire also has responsibility for all managerial tasks, including sales and development, marketing, etc. and the day-to-day management of the staff, associates and teams of role-players.

Emmanuelle Marshall, Group HSE Director, Enermech

Emmanuelle is responsible for global health, safety and environment at the Aberdeen-headquartered mechanical and electrical services specialist. Previously Claire was BP lead for the multi-national’s global HSE Learning and Development capability and over an 18 year period at Schlumberger she fulfilled a number of senior roles in HSE, technology and learning in the USA, Europe and Africa.
Dr. Mary McPhail, Director, Preparing4Life

Mary recently started Preparing4Life a business that teaches life skills to young adults. She strongly believes that young people need training to make the most of the real world outside school. She worked in Education for over 20 years and enjoys using practical activities to help people learn in a fun and engaging way.
she has always wanted to know ‘why?’,  which may explain why she has two science degrees. Her early career was in scientific research, but her real pleasure has always come from teaching. Nothing beats that ‘lightbulb’ moment, when someone suddenly understands something they didn’t get before. She is still fascinated by ‘why?’, but it’s now more about why people do the things they do and what can influence it. She likes to think we can all learn how to influence each other and do so, in a positive way.
You can expect a friendly welcome, stimulating conversations over drinks and nibbles, and a way of networking that helps you make meaningful connections with other women.
