What is Hippotherapy - Evening Physiotherapy Lecture, Waters Edge, Salford Clinic, Thursday, 09. May 2019

Lucy will introduce the practice of hippotherapy as a physiotherapeutic treatment for neurological and paediatric patients. She will present the principles and evidence underpinning this approach and will demonstrate its practical application in a number of neurological conditions.
She will compare and contrast the two approaches of hippotherapy and therapeutic riding and explain where each approach may be beneficial. She will present videos of how hippotherapy is effective and treatment techniques utilised.
During the workshop, the participants will get the opportunity to work through case studies as to how these hippotherapy treatment techniques may be applied to manage individual neurological case study presentations.”

Lucy West qualified as a physiotherapist in 2002 and has worked as a specialist neuro physiotherapist at The Walton Centre for Neurology and Neurosurgery and Aintree Hospital before continuing her career in private practice.
She gained her qualification as a Hippotherapist in 2017 and is in the process of developing a hippotherapy service in the Cheshire and Merseyside areas. She also holds the position of Regional Physiotherapist for the Riding for the Disabled charity (RDA) in the Cheshire and Merseyside regions providing advice and assistance to groups within these areas for any riders that they are struggling to manage physically.
