Twickenham Nursery Parent Roundtable #4 - Numeracy: How to Nurture Numbers, Hatching Dragons Twickenham, Friday, 29. March 2019

As part of our parent roundtable series, our wonderful Jo will be leading a discussion and workshop on numeracy in the early years and how we can all help nurture our children's knowledge of numbers and computational abilities at home.
As the Fair Education Allliance  (FEA) and Achievement for All numeracy group stated at the pupblication "Closing the Attainment Gap in Maths" that a lack of continuity of focus in numeracy at home can degrade learning at class, increasing the gap in numeracy skills at reception between those who have had proactive support in numeracy and those who have not. And it need not be all numbers! Maths is about volume, space, shape and measure - if you're cooking dinner, involve your child in pouring (how much / what volume), stirring (how many times one way, how many times another), weighing (adding and subtracing weights) - and arithmetic: if you're shopping how many pennies buys an avocado, peach, pear or plum.
We'll be hosting a discussion with parents from the local area and our own Jo will be giving her insights and activities that you can employ at home to foster learning in a fun and engaging way with your child so that he / she grows up to not think maths is "boring" but a fundamental part of life. Book your tickets today!!!
