The Hall, a very special Elizabethan House - a talk by Julian Orbach, Bradford-on-Avon, Wednesday, 11. September 2019

The Hall is a magnifiicent example of Jacobean architecture, built around 1600 by John Hall, a prominent local clothier who owned the wool mill opposite.
This lecture will explore the architectural features and significance of the Hall, in the context of Elizabethan and Jacobean architecture.
Julian Orbach is an author and lecturer in architectural history. A graduate in History and Italian from Magdalen College Oxford, Julian has worked in the field of historic buildings ever since. 
He compiled among others the lists of historic buildings in Faringdon and Watford before working on the listing in Wiltshire. The Blue Guide to Victorian Buildings was compiled at this time. He moved to Somerset in 2009 to begin a three-year revision of Nikolaus Pevsner's volume on South and West Somerset, In June 2014 he moved to beautiful Bradford on Avon, where he had lived in the 1970s, to begin the revision of the Buildings of England volume for Wiltshire. He became President of the Somerset Archaeological and Natural History Society for the year 2018-19 in May 2018. 
The setting for this talk will be the historic study (on the ground floor) at The Hall, Bradford on Avon.

Lectures are for a maximum of 35 people.
Lecture lasts approx. 1 hour.
Please note that The Hall is a Grade 1 listed building and has internal steps - there are 4 steps to the ground floor room where the lecture will take place.  There is currently no step-free access.
Tickets for this lecture are £10 per person plus a small Eventbrite booking fee

All proceeds from ticket sales will be used for charitable purposes only.

Are there minimum age requirements to enter the event?
Other than school groups, the minimum age is 16 years old.
What are my transport/parking options for getting to and from the event?
Parking is very limited at The Hall.  For disabled parking, please contact us to book a place. 
Entrance to The Hall is via the main gate on Holt Road - near the Woolley Street junction (for pedestrians, bicycles and booked parking only)
Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event?
Yes please!
What happens if the event is rescheduled?
In exceptional circumstances a lecture may need to be rescheduled, in the unlikely event that this is necessary, you will be offered alternative date options.
