Supporting children at school with sickle cell disease: good practice guidance , Delapre Learning Centre, Thursday, 23. May 2019

Prof Simon Dyson is a professor of sociology at De Montfort University in Leicester. He has undertaken national research on the experiences of young people living with sickle cell disease (SCD) at schools in England and has published articles on this subject. On the basis of the research he has produced a Guide to School Policy on Sickle Cell aimed at those with responsibilities under Section 100 of the 2014 Children and Families Act. The guide makes some suggestions about Individual Education, Health and Care Plans.
Simon will be supported by Claire Stockly who is the specialist sickle cellnurse for your Northamptonshire and who makes use of the guide in her work.
Although you may not have a child with sickle cell disease at the moment, this will be useful CPD for you for the future. Please encourage governors with responsbilities for pupils with medical needs to also attend.
