Sharp Shots Photo Club: Get to know your camera (age 12+), Turner Contemporary, Friday, 23. August 2019

This three hour workshop focuses on capturing the seaside through your child’s camera lens. Aperture, shutter speed and ISO will be introduced and your child will learn how to use the camera settings creatively to capture the seaside. We’ll spend some time looking at the seaside exhibition, discussing why and how the photographers took the photographs that are on display, and how we can incorporate those ideas into our work too. Afterwards we’ll head outdoors using shutter speed to capture the movement of the waves, seagulls and sand crabs! Students will learn how to blur their backgrounds, making their seaside subjects pop, and how to sharpen their shots, ensuring they arrive home with some lovely large seascapes too! Students will have the chance to print out a couple of their favourite images at the end of the workshop to show to their friends and family. Cameras can be provided or bring your own, and dress for the weather!
About the facilitator: Lillian Spibey is the director and founder of Sharp Shots Photo Club, the leading provider of photography classes for kids and teens in the UK, based in Surrey. Teaching kids and teens how to take a great photograph through understanding camera mechanics and composition is key for Lillian Spibey. She began taking photos age 13 on her father’s film camera, spent hours in the dark room developing film and prints, and then went on to get her B.A. (hons) in Photojournalism. Working as a professional photographer and teaching adults for over 10 years has given her ample experience in the field, which she now passes on to her students.
