Sensing Our Abundant Life, The Ashton, Saturday, 27. July 2019

Come and join us for this Christian Forest Retreat in the wonderful woodlands at Ashton Court. Using nature, meditation, scripture and prayer we will be reflecting together on where our identity comes from, how our identity affects living our purpose and living life in a meaningful way. This creative, educational retreat will help you discover some powerful, ‘naturally in tune’ strategies to realise and remember your worth, wellness and abundance, and learn how you can overcome limiting self beliefs that hold you back from living your purpose.
“I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly” (John 10 v 10).
GUEST SPEAKER:  Ros Durrant is a qualified Careers and Life Coach, working with individuals and groups in a variety of settings. She is an experienced facilitator and provides solutions and strategies for stress management, improved confidence, resilience and assertiveness. She has a special interest in supporting people through times of change, health and well-being, Christian guidance and calling, creation care and creative writing. She is also learning how to interpret dreams and grow in the prophetic. Ros came to the Christian faith over forty years ago and is currently a member of Keynsham Baptist Church.
HOST:  Clair Eggberry is the Founder and Wellness Consultant for Naturally In Tune. As a Forest School Practitioner and former Montessori Teacher, she uses her strengths and gifts to share spiritual principles and nature's gifts, creatively. She now enjoys leading regular mindful forest walks (also known as Forest Bathing) and retreats for wellness and conscious growth (personal, business and spiritual growth). As she expands in abundance, wellness and love, she encourages and affirms others to do the same. Her passion and purpose is to help others find freedom from limiting beliefs, depression, anxiety, abuse, life controlling issues and past hurts and step in tune with who they were created to be, their natural strengths, gifts, wellness and abundance so they can live their life purpose, wholeheartedly. She hopes that her forest events and retreats will encourage more people to enjoy spending time in forests and green spaces for their own wellbeing. She hopes more and more people will want to support the sustainable growth of forests and support our natural world through healthy, natural lifestyle changes. If we care for the garden, the garden will care for us.
WHERE WILL WE MEET?: The Ashton (event room upstairs), Ashton Road, Bristol, BS41 9LX. This is where we will spend most of our time together, but we will also be using the woodlands at Ashton Court for our afternoon forest bathing session.
WHAT TO BRING? Please bring appropriate clothing and walking shoes suitable for muddy conditions. Please bring your own bottle of water for the forest bathing session.
WHAT TIME: We will start at 11:30am and finish at 5:00pm.
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN MINDFULNESS AND MEDITATION? Most of the world religions have meditation as a prayer-type practise which can take many forms. Christian meditation can also take a variety of approaches but is based on the centrality of the Bible. For those who prefer not to identify with a specific faith, the term ‘mindfulness’ was coined to cover a wide range of reflective practices separate from specific belief systems. For the purposes of this retreat, we will be using a number of approaches that have been adapted for a Christian context.
“My mouth shall speak wisdom, and the meditation of my heart shall give understanding” Psalm 49:3
WHAT IS FOREST BATHING? It is the practice of bathing our senses while walking mindfully in a forest. It is quiet time from our busy lives, to tune in to our soul/spirit, our nature and essence which helps bring understanding, clarity and self-compassion to our healing journey. Enjoying a physical journey of the senses in the forest helps us return to our natural state of being. We are free to take off the masks we sometimes wear (our false identity) as there is no judgement in nature, only a sense of calm acceptance as we breathe in the therapeutic benefits of nature. Forest bathing is an immersive experience, which could bring a deeper connection with creation and the creator and leave us feeling a sense of peace and gratitude for the abundance and grace we have available to us. Being in nature often gives perspective, a sense of awe and appreciation which improves our mind-set and attitude. The term Forest Bathing (Shinrin-yoku) originated in Japan and is now a cornerstone of Japanese healthcare. Forest Bathing has become known as a lifestyle medicine. Scientific studies have shown that trees secrete natural chemicals, called phytoncides (which are actually essential oils) into the air and it is because of this healing balm in the forest air that regular time in forests has shown to lower blood pressure, reduce stress hormones, boost the immune system and elevate our mood. Numerous studies have also shown that spending time in forests and green spaces will increase focus, accelerate recovery from surgery or illness, increase energy levels and creativity, improve sleep and a general sense of wellbeing. When we spend time in a forest mindfully, the benefits are enhanced. Taking gentle, conscious steps in nature will give our body the opportunity to breathe in healing air, the medicine of the forest and receive the healing gifts found in nature.
HEALTH AND SAFETY: If you have a medical condition, are on prescribed medication or have any concerns, please see your GP and inform him/her about you attending this forest bathing session.
