Priorities of Care for the Dying Person, North Devon Hospice, Thursday, 04. June 2020

Caring for people who are close to death demands compassion, kindness and a skilled application of knowledge. The Priorities of Care for the Dying Person sets out the 5 priorities for care in the last few days and hours of life as well as the duties and responsibilities of Health and Care staff to ensure these priorities are achieved (2014 – Leadership Alliance for the Care of Dying People). Throughout this study day we will discuss current best practice enabling you to apply the 5 priorities of care to your practice
Aim:
To have knowledge and understanding of the Priorities of Care for the dying person
The five priorities are:

Recognising the dying phase
Communicating sensitively
Involving those important to the person
Supporting family and others
Plan and do – an individual and holistic plan of care

Learning Outcomes:
To be able to apply the five priorities of care to your practice when caring for an individual in the last days and hours of life.
