Pompey charity squad vs Celebrity XI , The PMC Stadium, Sunday, 14. April 2019

A host of TV celebrities and ex-Portsmouth players, managed by Pompey’s very own ‘Touchline Tony’, are set to descend on the home of Baffin's Milton Rovers on Sunday, April 14th for a special charity football match in aid of Pompey In The Community and Once Upon A Smile.
The match - Organised by Portsmouth Supporters’ Trust board member Mike Briscoe - promises to be a fun-filled occasion for all the family. Celebrities lined up to take part include Daniel Jillings (Hollyoaks), Danny Miller (Emmerdale), Ben Ryan Davies (Hollyoaks) and Cel Spellman (Cold Feet), while former Portsmouth players taking to the field include Alan Knight, Guy Butters, Dave Waterman and Patrick Agyemang. Many more names are still to be announced for both teams. All appearances are subject to work commitments. Line up may change nearer to the date of the match.
Pompey In The Community, one of the charities who will benefit from the game, are raising funds to help pay for a community football facility within the city. Clare Martin, head of Pompey In The Community, explains why this is so important: “We work with over 6,000 youngsters every week and engaged over 37,000 individuals last year. However, a continual challenge is not having our own sports facility. This means that virtually every time we kick a ball, we have to pay for a football pitch or facility. Our development teams have no home, playing home matches as far afield as Alton and Gosport.  A football facility of our own will help us continue to reach out further into the local community and ensure that even more people benefit from our programmes."
PST Chairman Simon Colebrook added: “We would like to start the process of what we do with the Trust’s own money. The board’s number one idea is working with Pompey in the Community to create a proper legacy, rather than us having money sitting in a bank account. Let’s do something meaningful with it to benefit the community. What we wish to do is identify somewhere within the city and acquire a facility, working with Clare Martin to develop it into a permanent sports facility which she can use for the community. Pompey in the Community will decide exactly how it will be developed. This project can give our shareholders something to have a sense of pride about, their legacy from the sale of the club.”
Mike Briscoe, the event organiser, says: “Please come along and support a great family day. The money raised from the match will really help Clare continue her amazing charity work in the local community. Once Upon A Smile is a charity that I have also supported for a few years; they are a bereavement charity who offer a variety of support to families in the UK through extremely difficult times, supporting families left to grieve after the loss of a loved one, helping those who often have little or no support available. Bereavement can have a devastating impact on family life and children, and Once Upon A Smile are working hard to make things better for them."
The match takes place at The PMC Stadium, home of Baffin's Milton Rovers, at 1 pm on Sunday, April 14th. Advance tickets are priced at £6 for Adults & £3 under 18's, while tickets bought on the day will be £10 for Adults & £5 for under 18's (subject to availability). Due to limited wheelchair spaces, these are available on a first-come-first-served basis. To register your interest please email our Inclusion Officer Sam Piggott at
