Meeting Difficult Emotions with Self-Compassion: 4-Week Course, Cardiff
We all experience difficult emotions from time to time. It’s part of being human. This course is an opportunity to learn more about our emotions; how to recognise them and actively work with them. We will focus on how to build resilience through bringing the skills of mindfulness and self-compassion to our emotional lives. We will learn skills to help us to meet our emotions rather than struggling with them and trying to avoid them. The course will draw on the fields of mindfulness, self-compassion and the work of Germer and Neff (Self-compassion), Hayes and Harris (ACT), Elliot and Greenberg (Emotion Focused Therapy) and Gilbert (Compassionate Mind).

The trainersAndy Wilson (MSc Counselling, Bristol; MBA, Warwick; BA, Psychology, Durham; PGCE, UWE) is a counsellor, coach and trainer based in Cardiff. He has an evidence-informed approach, in particular drawing on ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy) and Emotion-Focused Therapy (Greenberg and Elliot). Andy has attended Mindful Self-Compassion training with Christopher Germer and Kristin Neff.
Vicki Worsley is an experienced meditator, counsellor, teacher and trainer. She trained in mindfulness with Jon Kabat-Zinn (USA), Thich Nhat Hanh (France) and at Bangor University. Vicki has attended Mindful Self-Compassion training with Christopher Germer and Kristin Neff. She has an MA in Buddhist Studies from Bristol University.
 
Who is the course for? The course is aimed at anyone who would like to build resilience through greater understanding of their emotions. It is also suitable for therapists and health professionals who support others.
 
Course contentThe course will draw on the fields of mindfulness, self-compassion and the work of Germer and Neff (Self-compassion), Hayes and Harris (ACT), Elliot and Greenberg (Emotion Focused Therapy) and Gilbert (Compassionate Mind). This practical course includes input, techniques and exercises you can take away, discussion and experiential awareness activities.
 
Learning Environment A central part of the learning on this workshop will take place between students, in the group. For this learning to take place it is essential that the group environment is comfortable, friendly and supportive. We see it as a key part of our role to facilitate this environment.
 
Reading If you’d like to do some reading on the topic we recommend Mindful Self-Compassion, Chris Germer; The Compassionate Mind, Paul Gilbert and The Happiness Trap by Russ Harris.

What is the refund policy?You can cancel your registration up until the first day of the course. There is a cancellation fee of 40%. Once the course has started it's not possible to cancel your place.
