Manchester Support Group for Parents estranged from ***** children/children, UK, Saturday, 19. January 2019

Stand Alone is a charity carrying out research and raising awareness about family estrangement, as well as running workshops and support groups for people estranged from family.
This is a 6-session fortnightly support group for parents estranged from children or ***** children. It will be a closed group (new members can only start in week one or two) allowing for trust to develop between group members.
The group will start with an introductory session which offers an opportunity for group members to understand more about being in a support group and to decide whether they want to commit to the six sessions, and for us to assess whether we feel the group is appropriate for you.
The initial session will focus on agreeing boundaries for the group and deciding on themes or questions to be explored in group sessions. Some themes from previous groups have been:

Talking to others in my life about estrangement

Estrangement: A living loss

Shame and self-esteem

Triggering days such as Christmas, Mother's Day, Father's Day & birthdays

Reconciliation: what's realistic to hope for?

The group sessions will be facilitated by a trained counsellor. The facilitator will encourage group members to explore feelings about estrangement, to support one another, and to develop resilience to manage life in the **** of estrangement.
The support group sessions will be held on:
Saturdays from 11-12.30 on 19 Jan, 2 Feb, 16 Feb, 2 Mar, 16 Mar, 30 Mar.
To ask any questions about the support group please contact Project Manager Helen on
Due to our safeguarding policy we will let you know details of the venue a week before the support group starts by email.
