LIVERPOOL - Special Educational Needs Workshops, Liverpool Marriott Hotel City Centre, Friday, 17. May 2019

We are very excited to bring our highly-regarded workshops to LIVERPOOL in 2019!
Our workshops are designed for parents, carers and professionals who support children and young people with special educational needs. They aim to empower and enlighten you, so that you feel confident in advocating and supporting a child(ren) who need a little extra to enrich their life and learning experiences.
You are welcome to attend all, or some, of the workshops. You will see there is a discount applied for purchasing tickets to all the events, and refreshments will be available all day along with a light lunch.
EARLYBIRD TICKETS ARE ON SALE UNTIL MONDAY 3rd MAY 11:30PM. At this point the tickets will go up in price to the standard ticket price.


Attend all (or some) of the following workshops:
 09:00 – Understanding Autism 
Delivered by respectfully regarded and highly qualified Corrina Wood (who has a Masters in Autism and 4 of her own children on the Autistic Spectrum) of Platypus Training.
Why is the child good in school but awful when they come home?How do we manage relationships between home and school, and parental partnerships?Why might the child need an EHCP?How do I get the child to attend school?How can we enrich the child's learning experience?

11:15 –  Child Protection & Social Care - encompassing accusations of FII/Munchausen's by Proxy 
Delivered by highly experienced Independent Child Protection Specialist Linda Sands.
            What is social care’s role for children with SEND?
            What is the Care Act and how does it help children?
            What happens if you develop a negative relationship with social care?
            What is Child Protection, and why is it used for children with SEND?
            What to do if you find yourself accused of fabricating your child’s difficulties.

14:00 – Speech, Language & Communication
Delivered by award winning Speech & Language Therapist Libby Hill of Small Talk Speech & Language Therapy
            What is Speech & Language Therapy and communication development?
            And why do children need it? (Autism, PDA & other presentations will be covered)
            What assessments are needed and how to access help?
            What strategies can be used at home and school to develop communication? 
            What sort of things can be written into EHCPs?

16:15 – Sensory Processing Difficulties & OT
Delivered by Joanne Harries, Specialist Paediatric Occupational Therapist of the highly regarded Seirrah Therapies.
           What are sensory processing difficulties?
           What is sensory integration?
           And how do sensory processing difficulties affect our children?
           What can be done to help children with sensory processing difficulties in school and at home?

19:00 – SEND Law & EHCPs
The truth about SEND law, delivered by highly successful and specialist Educational Law legal practice HCB Solicitors.
            What is SEND law and how does it protect children with special educational needs?
            Applying, appealing and managing an EHCP (including annual reviews)
            Tribunals and mediation
            How to get therapies into legally bound sections
            Naming a provision - mainstream, specialist and residential and getting it funded
            What to do if your local authority act unlawfully, including Judicial Review
            What happens at age 18?
            How to manage EHCPs and ensure they fully support children with SEND
Every workshop will involve a Q&A session at the end, and so be sure to bring your questions with you!

I work in the Education/Health/Care sector, can I attend?
Absolutely! We want to share the right information with everyone who supports children and young people with special educational needs, or additional needs, and we would love for you to attend. 
My child doesn't have a diagnosis, can I still attend?
Yes, absolutely! This is for you. You have questions that need answering I'm sure, so let us help.
I've been told my child is not eligible for an EHCP, but he/she is in need of additional support in school. Shall I attend?
Absolutely you should, as we can explain how you can go about gaining the support your child needs.
What are my transportation/parking options for getting to and from the event?
There isn't parking available. You will need to check public transport options prior to booking.
Can I bring my child/children?
The event is not suitable for children, and so we recommend they do not attend.
