Learning and Skills Research Network (for post 16/further education staff)
Dates for your diary: 10th Oct 2018, 6th March 2019, 3rd July 2019 all 4-6pm
The Greater Manchester Learning and Skills Research Network (LSRN) is open to all further education staff who have an interest in or are carrying out practitioner research.  This is a space where you can network with others engaged in practitioner research, get the support of colleagues, develop your skills as a practitioner researcher and hear from academics. There is a UK wide LSRN network. These are the dates for the Gr Manchester group.
There will be a guest speaker at each of the events as follows:
On Wednesday 10th October 2018 we are delighted to welcome Rachel Jackson-Marsden, PhD student at Liverpool John Moores University, talking about Research Engagement in the Teaching Profession. Rachel says "we hear a lot about how teaching should be ‘evidence informed’ but what does this actually mean in schools and colleges? If evidence comes from research (in one form or another), to what extent do teachers engage with this research? Are they engaging in their own research? Findings from a survey (n=109), interviews (n=6) and case studies (n=3) will be presented to try to understand how the ‘evidence-informed’ policy agenda is played out in different contexts".
Rachel's bio: Rachel taught English in the secondary sector before starting a PhD at Liverpool John Moores University. As a teacher, she completed a Master’s of Education, involving a practitioner research project, and became interested in research engagement as a form of professional development. Her interest in evidence-informed teaching led to her volunteering as a Lead Advocate for the Chartered College of Teaching and she is now a Partnership Tutor for Manchester Metropolitan University, where she works with schools to facilitate research engagement.
On Wednesday 6th March 2019 we will be welcoming Dr Alison Iredale from Leeds Beckett University and on Wednesday 3rd July 2019 we will be joined by Dr Jim Crawley from Bath Spa University. (More details about these speakers will be added nearer the time).
