Introduction to Scriptwriting for Screen 6 Week Course, Central Hall, Tuesday, 08. January 2019


This 6 week course is designed to both give you the theory and tools necessary to begin writing but also the opportunity to put this into practice. By the end of the 6 weeks you will have pitched, planned and written your own short film.

The 6 weeks are intensive and enjoyable , previous participants have said:

How does that work?

The sessions are a mixture of theory and practical workshops. You will be expected to bring writing from week 3 for feedback and guidance.  
 
Who is it for?
 
Anyone interested in writing for TV or Film. The sessions aim to help you in all mediums of writing.  Writing for screen is like learning a new instrument. Regardless of what forms you've written for before (or not) these sessions will help you think about your ideas in more detail and techniques to get them out of your head and onto the paper. 
 
You do not need to have written to before to benefit from these sessions. They are designed for new writers.

What will it cover

You will be introduced to thinking about structure,character,dialogue and formatting. You will be supported to write your own short film (you do not need to have anything prepared in advance).

Tutor

The course is run by Beth McCann a new writing specialist and lecturer in scriptwriting at various universities. 
Scriptwriting North is the northwests independent new writing hub, supporting new and emerging writers. Current participants have won the Channel 4 Northern Writers Award, working professionally with the BBC, various production companies, shortlisted for the Alfrred Bradley Award and BAFTA Rocliffe Award to name just a few.

Follow on - Script Development Group

The 6-week development group is an opportunity to develop your writing further in a forum environment. You can work at your own pace and will be steered by the facilitator as to what to do next with the development of your script.

Current participants are writing short films, TV series and films. It's a great chance to share ideas, keep motivated and build a portfolio of work.

 
Cancellation

Any cancellations over 7 days before the course started will be refunded in full. If you need to cancel with less than 7 days notice we can happily transfer your booking on to one of our other courses.
