Bar Modelling Day 
at Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2
Using model drawing as a valuable resource to strengthen and deepen pupils’ understanding of mathematics, focusing on fluency and mastery.

Session Aims

To understand the use of bar modelling as a key heuristic for problem solving;
To become familiar with the CPA approach and the 4 key bar models; 
To understand how bar modelling can be integral to the teaching and learning of mathematics from Year 1 to Year 6 and beyond;
To enjoy using this powerful method to problem solve in Key Stages 1 and 2.

Session Outline
Join us to explore one of the heuristics used in the Singapore approach to teaching and learning mathematics. We will investigate the progression of bar modelling from Year 1 through to Year 6, enjoying some tricky questions from Inspire Maths on the .

Who should attend?
New members of staff as an introduction; existing staff as a refresher; and Maths Leaders considering how the Singapore approach can support teaching to mastery.
