Lochaber Ideas Week 2018 is presented in partnership with Developing the Young Workforce West Highlands.
Lochaber Chamber of Commerce is delighted to bring you a bigger, better, faster Dragons' Glen as part of Ideas Week 2018 in association with Foundation Scotland, with £10,000 prize money available for the daring winner!  
This is the fifth year of the Dragons Glen competition – inspired by the popular TV show! Dragons Angus MacDonald, Emma Parton, Andy Meldrum, and Ali MacLeod are ready to inspire the next generation of entrepreneurs right here in the Outdoor Capital of the UK, Lochaber!
BUDDING entrepreneurs in Lochaber are being invited to enter the “Dragons’ Glen” in a bid to win £10,000 cash from West Coast Communities Growth Trust administered by Foundation Scotland for their business idea. Anyone who dares to enter the Dragons’ Glen should email membership@.
The competition is open to all Lochaber residents, aged 16 or over, who have a business idea, and businesses wishing to diversify or introduce an innovative new concept.
Dragons’ Glen applicants are asked to produce a 90 second video pitch along with a written application.
The competition forms part of Lochaber Ideas Week, which is aimed at actively inspiring innovation and entrepreneurship in Lochaber.  Tickets cost £5 plus booking fee.
About the Dragons
Angus MacDonald - Angus has built two significant publishing companies, the latter originally a newspaper called Financial News that morphed into 'efinancialnews' and 'efinancialcareers'. This was sold to the Wall Street Journal and two private equity firms in 2007 for £80m. He now has a series of businesses in recycling, renewable energy, internet education, and forestry. He founded the Caledonian Challenge, which has raised c. £14m for charity, and runs the Moidart Trust to help businesses in the West Highlands of Scotland grow and flourish.
He is a Deputy Lieutenant for Perthshire and was awarded an OBE for servies to the Highlands. He has also published two successful novels.
Emma Parton - Emma is the owner and Managing Director of The Highland Soap Company, based in Fort William. Having started The Highland Soap Company from her own kitchen in Spean Bridge, Emma has grown the business in a way that ensured the company remains committed to producing handmade soaps and toiletries using the most natural ingredients and traditional methods.
The Highland Soap Company has just opened their fourth retail shop in Oban, to accompany the existing ones in Fort William, Spean Bridge, and Pitlochry. The products can also be found online and in select retailers and hotels all across the country.
Andy Meldrum - Andy is Managing Director and owner of Glencoe Mountian Resort, Scotlands' oldest ski area, established in 1956. Glencoe Mountian Resort is now a year round activity centre, with on site accommodation. The Resort supports and promotes many new events in the area such as the Harry Potter Drive In movies, MacAvalanche enduro race, Coe Cup, British Downhill Championships and much more.
Andy has a background in the oil industry with expereince as far as Libya and South Africa. He then set up his own successful home shopping business in 1994 before taking over at Glencoe in 2009.
Ali MacLeod - Ali is Head of Fundraising and Cruises with the National Trust for Scotland. Originally from a farming background in the West Highlands, she has enjoyed a varied career in third sector fundraising spanning 16 years. Previously, she worked globally and locally as Director of fundraising and Marketing for a global humanitarianaid and development organisation, with the British Red Cross, Jordan Red Crescent, and Universities of Aberdeen and Melbourne.
She has many years of experience in writing and pitching projects for funding, and understands the passion, persistance and commitment required to make projects come to life. She is interested in the values businesses seek to promote through their brands.
