Future Foods: Farming to Improve Health , The Slate - Warwick Conferences, Monday, 25. November 2019

This, our 5th Annual Conference is for the agri-food industry.
Future Foods: Farming to Improve Health
Food is one of the biggest challenges of our time. Obesity, hunger, coronary heart disease and diabetes blight our health and societal wellbeing – as well as the progress that has been made to deliver affordable food to more and more people.
The issues in food production are complex with farming, the raw commodity producer, having much diminished influence over the past 25 years.
This conference seeks to find out how agricultural science can address and resolve the economic and societal conflicts in food production.
What can agri-food businesses do to reverse this decline?
In essence, the commoditised, mass-production of sugars, saturated fats and various additives has reduced the cost of manufactured foods, many of low nutritional quality. Governments since the Second World War have contributed public money to reduce the costs of these raw materials.
Farmers and food companies are in the health business and need to work together to reduce the cost of high quality foods and to raise the cost of unhealthy foods. Otherwise we will continue to pay for the effects of poor diet rather than addressing the causes.
