Falmouth Nordic Walking Weekend, Falmouth, Saturday, 12. June 2021
About this Event
Join Kelly from Walk Kernow for a Nordic Walking Adventure weekend. You are advised to book accommodation of your choice in the Falmouth area to enjoy 2 days Nordic Walking with us.
Day One will take you over to The Roseland Peninsula. Meeting at Prince of Wales Pier and then hopping onto the Fal River Boat to St Mawes which is a small fishing village nestled at the end of the Roseland peninsula. There will be time to get refreshments here before we get onboard a smaller boat which will take us over to Place where after a warm-up we will start our Nordic Walking day.
We will make our way along the coast path through the towering Pine trees spotting sailing boats going in and out of Falmouth & St Mawes. We then make our way to St Anthony Lighthouse . We then continue on up to St Anthony Head for a spectacular view over to Falmouth and Pendennis Castle.
On the other side of the headland, we will make our way down towards Towan Beach and the cafe at Porth Farm for a cuppa. Making our way further into the Roseland Peninsula we pass through the delightful fishing village of Portscatho.
Lunch at The Hidden Hut - during the day, the hut serves a small menu of simple, freshly made lunches and refreshments.
With full tummies, we start out making our way back to Place where the ferry had dropped us off in the morning. The first part we have walked earlier but after a short time, we leave this path and head inland for a more wooded kind of walk along the creeks spotting birds such as white egrets and surrounded by local flowers. The trees are very welcome in the afternoon after an exposed morning on the higher ground of the South West Coast Path. Meandering our way through the woodland back to the little slipway to hop on the boat back to St Mawes and on again to Falmouth.
Approx 9.5 miles 09.30 am start
Day Two starts at the car park above the Ferryboat Inn and we will hop on the Helford Riverboat for a pretty little journey over to the Helford on The Lizard Peninsula to enjoy 2 circular walks around the creeks of the Helford River. The morning walk to St Dennis Head will follow the river valley from Helford to Manaccan and along tracks and footpaths to reach Gillan Creek. The route follows the edge of the creek to St Anthony in Meneage and then rounds Dennis Head to the main Helford River. The return route is alongside the river estuary, passing several small coves.
Lunch at the The Shipwrights Arms
If you need to get back to start your journey home you may leave the walk at this point and take the return ferry back.
The afternoon walk is a shorter post-lunch walk which takes you through the wooded valleys of the Helford River meandering our way along to Frenchmans Creek which so inspired Daphne Du Maurier's novel. All in all a beautiful afternoon walk.
Approx 10 miles 09.30 am start
