EXPLORING THE BEAUTY OF BUTTERFLIES With Mary Ellen Taylor, Sculpture by the Lakes, Friday, 07. February 2020

The sight of the first butterfly in the garden after a long, dark winter makes the heart skip a beat, restoring faith in the warmth and colour that spring brings.

In this two-day workshop, Mary Ellen Taylor, botanical artist based at the Chelsea Physic Garden, London, will share her tips for capturing the beauty of these ephemeral creatures through watercolour. Step-by-step guidance will be given to produce a lovely small study focusing on species naturally found in the gardens of Sculpture by the Lakes.

Mary Ellen Taylor’s love of flora and fauna began in the Galapagos Islands and Andes where she lived for 2 decades before settling into the Chelsea Physic Garden to study botanical painting. Still based at the Physic Garden, Mary Ellen was Diploma Course Director for both The English Gardening School and Chelsea School of Botanical Art and continues to teach. Mary Ellen’s work has been published, sold internationally and recently selected for inclusion in the Transylvania Florilegium being created under the umbrella of HRH The Prince of Wales’s Foundation Romania

Lunch, tea and coffee is included for all students, please advise regarding dietary requirements when booking or on the booking form.
