CREATIVE ENTREPRENEURSHIP: WHERE DO GREAT IDEAS COME FROM?
Do great ideas begin with a question or a problem? What are the creative processes in developing ideas, projects and products?
The creative process and the business process in formulating ideas for viable businesses are very different. The artist is driven by the value and meaning of the idea whereas the business person is concerned with results. Creatives generally start with the idea whereas the business minds begin with problems to solve or looking at what is popular.
The skills needed to become a creative entrepreneur are no different to those of any entrepreneur. But there is a difference in what drives those who come to enterprise as a result of their creativity:

They are motivated by the work itself rather than by ‘being in business’
They are values rather than profit led
They create markets rather than respond to market needs
They are conceptual thinkers

Creativity grows of everyday experience; when creatives are emotionally involved in the idea, that idea holds a lot more personal meaning so it can generate fear when putting their ideas out into the world. It can produce a vulnerability when presenting their creativity to new markets and creates a fear of not achieving dreams or expectations or exposing themselves too much.
Some of the reasons to engage in enterprise might be the desire to earn a living from their creativity or because they see an opportunity to develop their communities through creativity or because they have an idea which is potentially scalable and profitable.
From a start-ups perspective- How do we create remarkable products from creative ideas? What different processes do creatives take? How can we break down fears to make the transformation into a creative business more accessible? How do we create the environments where ideas can happen? What is the space needed to generate creative ideas? How do we encourage people to come together and collaborate and generate new ideas?
