Communication for new tutors: Teaching Clinical Communication to medical students
A half day course that covers:

The what and why of teaching communication
Small group facilitation - the tutor skills
Using constructive feedback
Working with Simulated Patients

This course will cover all of the above and is an opportunity to increase your small group facilitation skills, working with role-play and Simulated Patients. It is targeted at clinical staff who have not previously taught on Communication sessions for the University of Manchester - School of Medical Sciences. The session is run by staff of the Clinical Communication Team and offered at the Teaching Hospital sites. Staff attending are encouraged to follow up by shadowing a teaching session and moving towards running a group by themselves. Tutor packs and scenarios are provided, since a core curriculum is offered for our medical students across all years. Staff joining the teaching team will be supported in their development. GPs are welcome to attend but should note that the Teaching Hospital sites rarely employ GPs as paid teachers. Keen (unpaid) volunteers are always welcome!
This workshop is part of a series of PRIME staff development workshops run by the University of Manchester - School of Medical Sciences. For further details and related workshops please see the PRIME website, and click here for directions to our workshop locations.
