BOLD AS CHILDREN’S CONCERT - WEST SIDE STORY (DEAL), St George's Deal, Monday, 01. July 2019

The leaders of Deal Music & Arts BOLD AS education project lead young musicians and dancers from Trinity Laban Conservatoire to perform a memorable concert which welcomes and engages with local primary & secondary school students and local families. The iconic musical West Side Story was first performed on Broadway in 1957. Its story, loosely based on Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, was brought to life by Leonard Bernstein’s famous score and the mesmerising dance routines choreographed by Jerome Robbins. Earlier this year, the brass and dance faculty of Trinity Laban Conservatoire in London joined forces to recreate this epic work. The Symphonic Brass arrangement by Eric Crees is a real ‘tour de force’ and it is brought to life by original choreography created especially for the performance. It is a unique collaboration of brass and dance. Brass students from Trinity Laban have performed at BOLD AS Concerts from the start of the project, inspiring the next generation of young brass players in East Kent.
TIMINGS - The concert starts promptly at 10am. Schools will need to arrive by 9.30am to be seated by 9.50am at the latest. The concert is 45 minutes in length.
COST - Attendance is FREE to young people at local Kent schools, and to accompanying staff and their parents. We very much encourage parents/carers to attend this concert for free, too, but they will have to be seated with the school and arrive with the school.
BOOKING - You will be asked to fill in a short booking form, which indicates exactly how many young people, staff and parents/carers will be attending. We will need this in advance of the concert, and cannot guarantee space if you turn up unexpectedly on the day. We are limiting each school to bring only one class, in order that other schools can benefit from the concert.
TARGET YEAR GROUP - KS1-4
GETTING THERE - We advise that you attend the concert from your school via walking bus as there is limited parking locally.
NOTE ABOUT THE AUDIENCE - The concert is also open to the general public, so please be aware of this in advance. We need to ensure that all children are accompanied by your school staff at all times (to toilets, and so on) and that they need to be on their very best behaviour throughout (of which we have no doubt that they will be, of course!). Please ensure that children bring a bottle of water or squash (and small snack if needed) with them to the concert. Public Admission at the door subject to availability – Family Ticket (1 *****, 1 Child) £5.00
