The focus of the event is to look at fire safety within the care industry. The event program includes 2 case studies of fire incidents within the care sector and will provide numerous common but important fire safety learning points for delegates.

A case study describing the sequence of events in the run up to, during and after a fire at a registered residential care premises in the South Wales area. Arup’s top 10 fire design and specification concerns and where they see the challenges lie in achieving an appropriate level of safety in building and takes into account Arups teams fire engineering experience from working in the full building cycle. It is based on what the team see not just in the design and specification stage (i.e. submission of fire strategy as part of Building Regulations application), but also from there experiences when supporting contractors as competent persons during construction, when  witnessing  commissioning of fire safety systems, and what they observe during handover and when the building is taken into use.

A case study looking at Newgrange Care Home Fire Investigation & Prosecution. Looking at the build up to the attendance of HFRS and then the problems encountered throughout the incident, the prosecution under the FSO and the outcome of the prosecution.
15.00: South Wales Fire & Rescue Service community fire safety team.  How the community fire safety team within South Wales FRS identify, conduct visits and provide  information to vulnerable persons within the community
