1929 General Election Polling Station at Picnic in the Park, Queen's Park, Saturday, 09. June 2018

Loughborough Library Local Studies supported by the Votes for Women Centenery Fund grant, will stage a 1929 General Election with Polling Station complete with Voting booth, with suffragettes, placards, handouts and suffragette rosette making, at this year's Picnic in the Park, Queens Park, Loughborough on June 9th 2018. The 1929 Election was the first all women over 21 could vote, it was known as the Flapper Election because of the independant minded women called flappers who flocked to the Polling Stations to use their vote.  Find out how Womens voting rights were fought for in Loughborough with the Corcoran Sisters from Castledine Street (our very own suffragettes) marching in the park with placards.   Free entry.
